My upgrade code is not recognized

Upgrade codes are issued for Noldus software using hardware license keys (dongles) when the software is to be updated to a new version or additional modules will be added. Upgrade codes are also used to change the expiration date of the license if you have a loan or rental (purchased software does not expire).

If the upgrade key to upgrade your hardware license key (dongle) is not recognized, please check the following items. You will get a warning that you only have a limited number of tries left (although this count will reset the following day). If you do not get this warning, the code was recognized and you are done.

Software Version Must Match Upgrade Code

Upgrade code for hardware license keys (dongles) are created for specific versions of the software. For example, if you have an upgrade code for EthoVision XT 16, you must have EthoVision XT 16 installed and enter the code in that version. If your upgrade code is for The Observer XT 14.2, it must be entered in The Observer XT 14.2 and not 14.0 or any other version. Once the code has been entered, the hardware license key will also continue to work in older versions, but the code must be initially entered in the new version. So, please download and install the correct version of the software. If you do not see the correct version listed in the downloads section of this site (e.g., for very old versions), please contact Noldus support for assistance.

Enter the Code Correctly

If at all possible, copy-paste the upgrade code into the software to avoid typos. If you must type it (e.g., the computer is not connected to the internet), please note that the upgrade codes may contain the numerals zero and one but will not include the letters O, I, or L.

Depending on the software, upgrade codes may be either 20 alphanumeric characters on a single line, or 20 characters on a first line and 4 additional characters on a second line. Enter the entire code.

Check the License Number

The upgrade window will show your current license number. If the upgrade code is for a new version of the software, it will not exactly match the new license number, because the first part of the license number reflects the version number. So, for example, if you are upgrading from EthoVision XT 15 to EthoVision XT 16, your current license number will be EV015-00000-AAAAAAAA where EV015 indicates EthoVision XT 15, while the new license number will start EV016 to reflect the new version. The letters at the end encode which optional modules are included in the license, which may also change. The only part of the license number that must match is the middle numeric part (e.g. -00000-). If the middle numeric part does not match, the upgrade code is for a different license key; when in doubt please contact Noldus support. In any case, you do not need to type the new license number, it will be automatically updated after your upgrade code has been entered.

Additional Computers

After an upgrade code has been entered successfully, the hardware license key stores the new license information. If you move the key to a different computer, you will not need to enter the upgrade code again.
